Retired Couple Crafts Cat Beds and Toys to Support Rescue Animals

Meet the retired couple who turned leftover fabric into a mission to help rescue cats. Their handcrafted beds and toys aren't just adorable - they're supporting animal rescue efforts with every purchase.

From Clothing Shop to Cat Beds

These two cat grandparents have found a purr-fect way to spend their retirement days. After running a clothing shop for four decades, the couple retired in 2019. When 2020 began, they were still figuring out what to do with all their new free time.

Finding a New Purpose

Initially, they started sewing masks. Soon they had lots of extra fabric on their hands. That's when their daughter Christina stepped in with an idea. Christina fosters kittens and co-founded a cat cafe called Meow Parlor. She suggested they use the extra fabric to make cat beds.

Perfecting Their Craft

Jae Shin and Young Suk aren't the type to do things halfway. Being detail-oriented perfectionists, they went through four different prototypes before landing on the perfect design.

Their cat beds got proper testing too. The couple sent their work to various foster cats and collected video reviews of the products in action. The final design features a flat bed containing a special mixture of catnip and silver vine that cats love.

Expanding Their Pet Project

Cat beds were just the beginning. The couple soon expanded their offerings to include hand-sewn cat toys. They especially love making ocean-themed toys because, as Jae Shin explains, "cats love fish."

Supporting Animal Rescue

All these lovingly crafted items are now sold on their website called Whisks to Whiskers. Shoppers can find many adorable patterns to choose from.

Each sale does more than just make cats happy - the proceeds support Meow Parlor's nonprofit organization that helps rescue cats. This family project combines their creativity with their love for animals in a way that helps cats in need.

Fans can see more of their work on the whisksandwhiskers social media account, where they share updates on their retirement passion project that's making a difference for rescue cats across the community.
