Meet Hamlet, the Iconic Hotel Cat of New York!
A Special Hotel Guest
Imagine a hotel with a guest so important that he has his very own personal assistant. Meet Hamlet the 8th, a 12th-generation hotel cat at the Algonquin Hotel in New York City. This kitty isn't just any cat; he comes from a long line of felines who've made the hotel their home.
A Purr-fect Tradition
The story began way back in the 1920s when a stray marmalade cat named Rusty wandered into the Algonquin Hotel and never left. Actor John Barrymore, a regular visitor at the hotel, suggested the name "Hamlet" for a more regal touch, and the tradition took off from there. Since then, the hotel has always been home to a cat named either Hamlet or Matilda.
From Stray to Star
Before becoming a star, Hamlet the 8th was just another stray in a colony on Long Island. Like all his predecessors, he is a rescue cat. But now, thanks to the Algonquin Hotel, he enjoys the red-carpet life, complete with an assistant to manage his busy schedule and social media!
A Cat's Dream Home
Last year, Hamlet's home got even better when the hotel redesigned its lobby to be cat-friendly. With bookshelves, cozy nooks, and ladders, it's a playground any cat would love! Visitors from all over the world come to meet him, but Hamlet stays humble and dignified despite all the attention.
Cat With a Cause
Hamlet is not just about living in luxury. He's also a charitable cat! Every year, he hosts fundraisers to help animal rescue groups. Thanks to Hamlet, the Algonquin Hotel is more than just a place to stay—it's a spot that makes a difference.
The Busy Life of a Hotel Cat
With so much going on, Hamlet can't possibly handle everything himself. That's why he has a Chief Cat Officer to keep his life running smoothly. From handling his emails to setting up his photo ops, she's got it all covered!
Come and meet the famous Hamlet the Hotel Cat, and become part of a tradition that's been purring for almost a century!
