Meet Rackarkatten: The Cat That Outruns Olympic Sprinters
The Feline Speedster
This Siberian cat has a faster 60-meter dash than the current human world record holder. Despite not looking particularly aerodynamic, her fastest 60-meter time is 5.8 seconds. That's faster than Olympian Christian Coleman's world record time of 6.34 seconds. While her time isn't official, many would purchase tickets to see them race together.
From Ganania to Rackarkatten
The speedy feline was originally named Ganania. She quickly earned a new nickname though - Rackarkatten, which means "rascal cat" in Swedish. Her running career began when she was about 2 years old. She would dash home at the end of walks from her country home with her owner, Magnus.
The Unbeaten Champion
One day, Magnus wondered if he could beat her home after she took off. He tried but lost that race. Now Rackarkatten is 15 years old, and Magnus has still never won against her. During her prime years, the undefeated cat would race Magnus as often as twice a week.
Winter Training Facilities
When winter brings heavy snow, Magnus makes sure his champion can still train. He shovels a track for her so she can keep running if she wants to. This dedication shows the special bond between the two competitors.
Semi-Retirement
Now in her golden years at age 15, Rackarkatten has scaled back her racing schedule. She's semi-retired and only races a couple of times per year. But make no mistake - she remains the fastest cat around. If cats could enter the Olympics, you'd likely see her wearing Swedish colors this summer.
