Dog Rescue in Maine Turns into a Cozy Community Haven
Cozy Cabins for Rescued Dogs
There's a special dog rescue in Maine where dogs live in cozy cabins with their own play yards. This place is called the Grammy Rose Dog Rescue and Sanctuary. Instead of crates, each dog gets a private bedroom in one of the 6 climate-controlled cabins. These cabins are just like little dormitories for dogs.
A Home-Like Setup
In the front part of each cabin, there's a comfortable living room. It’s set up like a typical home so that visitors, staff, and volunteers can interact, play, and train the dogs during the day. This helps the dogs to get used to a home environment, making it easier for them to adapt when they find their forever families.
Outdoor Adventures
Surrounding the cabins, there are acres of hiking trails. Volunteers take the dogs for regular walks on these trails, creating healthy routines for the dogs. This way, they get plenty of exercise and fresh air beyond the Maine cabins.
A Fun Community Center
On the same property, there’s an 18-hole dog-themed mini-golf course and ice cream shop called Wiki Ralph. All the money made from the mini-golf and ice cream shop goes directly to the rescue. These fun attractions bring in more people from the community, who might leave with a new best friend.
Inspired by Love
The idea for Grammy Rose Dog Rescue was inspired by Rose Wentworth, who lived on this land about 100 years ago. The rescue was started by Rose's granddaughter and her husband to keep up Rose and her husband's legacy of loving dogs with all their hearts.
