A Morning Surprise

When Kerry McKinnon’s husband called her to the back door early one morning, she had no idea what she was about to see. As Kerry stepped outside, she couldn't help but laugh. There was their golden retriever, Asha, taking her usual morning nap on the deck. But this time, Asha had a tiny, fuzzy passenger.

Asha's New Friend

Curled up on top of Asha was a baby koala! Asha looked a bit guilty and confused but didn't seem bothered by her new friend. The baby koala, called a Joey, looked perfectly content snuggling with Asha's warm fur.

The Mystery of the Hitchhiking Koala

Nobody knew for sure how Asha and the Joey met. Kerry called a wildlife expert who suggested that the Joey was likely an orphan. He probably wandered into the yard and found Asha because her fur was cozy and warm.

A Cold Morning Rescue

It had been a chilly morning, and the Joey was still young, needing warmth that he would usually get from his mother. Asha had been napping outside for a few hours, giving the Joey just the warmth he needed to survive.

A Happy Ending

The baby koala was taken to a vet for a checkup and then to a local koala carer. There, he will stay until he’s old enough to live on his own in the wild. Thanks to Asha’s unexpected cuddles, the Joey had a second chance at life.
