A Surprise Friendship

In 2020, Juliet and Reese rescued a little magpie they named Molly. Molly had fallen out of a nest near their home in Australia. They took her in to nurse her back to health. Guess what happened next? Molly became best friends with their dog, Peggy, a Staffordshire terrier!

Even though Molly was still wild and could fly away anytime, she chose to spend lots of time with Peggy. The two became an internet sensation when videos of them playing and cuddling went viral. People loved seeing their unusual friendship.

Trouble Brews

Not everyone was happy about Molly and Peggy’s bond. Some people reported the family for keeping a wild magpie as a pet. Because of this, wildlife authorities came and took Molly away. Peggy was left with just a stuffed toy that looked like her friend. The authorities said Molly needed to be in the care of professionals.

People weren’t happy that Molly was taken away. Over 150,000 people signed a petition asking for Molly to be returned. Juliet and Reese decided to take special training and get a wildlife carer's license so that Molly could come back home.

After 45 long days, Molly finally came back yesterday. Peggy was overjoyed to be reunited with her best friend. Now, they can go back to playing, cuddling, and making everyone smile again.
