Reporter Catches Dog Thief During Live Coverage
On the Scene
One day, reporter Juliana Mazza and her cameraman, John Guice, were in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They were there to cover a dog theft that happened just 24 hours earlier. The dog thief had been seen on a security camera. The WCVB crew wanted the community to help keep a lookout for both the man and a 13-month-old Pointer named Titus.
A Lucky Sight
As they were setting up, Juliana and John saw a man walking by with a dog. The dog looked exactly like Titus! Juliana thought quickly. She called the man over and asked if she could pet the dog. She wanted to get close enough to check the dog’s nametag. And guess what? The tag confirmed that it was Titus!
Getting the Story
Juliana signaled to John to start the camera. Then she began asking the man some questions. He said it was just a misunderstanding. He claimed he took Titus because he thought he was supposed to walk the dog. When Juliana asked why he hadn’t called the number on the dog tag in the past 24 hours, the man said his phone was broken.
Calling for Help
Juliana called the police right away. She explained that she had found Titus and the suspected dognapper. The police arrived in minutes, and so did Titus’s real owner, Greg. Greg and Titus had a very emotional reunion.
A Happy Ending
The man was charged with the theft, and Titus is now happily back with Greg, where he belongs. Thanks to Juliana and John’s quick thinking, the story had a great ending!
