How a Runner and a Stray Dog Became Best Friends
Running Partners in the Desert
In the middle of a 155-mile race in the Chinese Gobi Desert, Dion, a runner, found himself a new friend. A small stray dog picked him out from the crowd and started running alongside him. As they ran together, Dion named her Gobi.
A Special Bond Formed
By the time they'd run 25 miles together, Dion started sharing his food and water with Gobi. He noticed that Gobi, like him, had faced a tough early life but was still very resilient. Because he saw so much of himself in her, Dion promised Gobi he'd give her a better life and bring her home to the UK.
The Search for Gobi
Travel restrictions meant Gobi had to stay under someone else's care for a while before she could leave China. While Dion was back in the UK preparing for her arrival, he received devastating news: Gobi had gone missing. Determined to keep his promise, he flew back to China and launched a search party, personally handing out hundreds of flyers.
A Happy Reunion
Miraculously, after 10 days, a local spotted Gobi and took her in. When Dion went to confirm it was her, Gobi immediately ran into his arms. Dion then decided to stay in Beijing for four months until Gobi's quarantine period was over. Finally, Dion brought Gobi home.
A Friendship That Lasts Forever
Ever since that day, Dion and Gobi have been like two peas in a pod. Their bond is truly unbreakable, showing how two friends can find each other, even in the most unexpected places.
