The Beaver Who Won Her Day In Court
A Beaver's Unlikely Champion
Once upon a time, there was a beaver named Nibi who found herself at the center of a big legal adventure. Nibi was rescued as a tiny kit, all alone and far too young to survive without her family.
The Unusual Beaver
Nibi wasn't like other beavers. Though she loved people, she wasn't a fan of her own kind. She built dams to keep other beavers away and even refused to eat when they were nearby. Her rescuers at Newhouse Wildlife Rescue realized Nibi couldn’t safely live in the wild.
A Race Against Time
But then came some worrisome news: the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife wanted to release Nibi into the wild. Despite her struggles, they had set a date to take her away. This sent shockwaves through Nibi's supporters.
Rallying for Nibi
Nibi's team knew releasing her was dangerous. So, they sprang into action! Lawyers from Teper Healey and nearly 30,000 people signed a petition to stop her release. Her legal team even filed an emergency injunction to delay her removal.
Victory for Nibi
Before the case went to court, something amazing happened. Governor Maura Healey stepped in and announced that Nibi could stay at Newhouse as an educational ambassador. Nibi was safe at last! Now, she can help teach people about her kind for years to come.
