Teen Saves Squirrel with Roadside CPR, Amazes Police Officers
Teen Driver Goes Above and Beyond to Save Injured Squirrel
Most people wouldn't think twice about a squirrel darting in front of their car. But 19-year-old Chris Felix isn't most people.
A Roadside Rescue Attempt
Chris was driving through a neighborhood near Minneapolis when a squirrel ran into the road and was struck by his car. Instead of continuing on his way, Chris immediately pulled over to help the small creature.
He knelt down beside the motionless squirrel and began performing CPR, using gentle chest compressions to try to revive the tiny animal.
Police Capture the Heartwarming Moment
Two police officers happened to be driving by when they noticed Chris on the side of the road. Concerned that he might need help, they pulled over to check on him.
What they found was a young man doing everything he could to save a squirrel's life. The officers' body cameras recorded the entire rescue attempt.
A Miracle Recovery
For about a minute, it seemed like Chris's efforts might be in vain. The squirrel showed no signs of life despite the careful chest compressions.
Then suddenly, as if waking from a deep sleep, the squirrel jumped up and scampered away. It ran off as though nothing had happened, leaving Chris and the officers amazed and delighted.
Compassion Knows No Size
When asked about his actions, Chris explained that the size of the animal didn't matter to him. He believed that if there was any chance he could save a life—no matter how small—he was going to try.
A Promising Future in Medicine
It comes as no surprise that Chris plans to pursue a career in medicine. His quick thinking, compassion, and willingness to help clearly show he has the heart needed for such an important field.
This small act of kindness demonstrates that heroes come in all forms, and sometimes the smallest lives matter just as much as the big ones.
