Penguin Pair's Adventure at New Zealand Sushi Shop
Penguin Couple Finds the Perfect Nesting Spot - A Sushi Shop
Two adventurous penguins in New Zealand found what they thought was the perfect place to build their nest: a local sushi shop. This bold couple broke into the establishment attracted by its warmth, closeness to the harbor, and of course, the abundance of fresh fish.
The Discovery
Sushi shop owner Long Lin was surprised to find the feathery visitors in his business. He knew right away that this busy location wouldn't be safe for the penguins. The shop was in a high-traffic area that posed many dangers to the small birds. Lin acted quickly and called for help to move them to a better home.
First Attempt at Relocation
The Wellington Police and Department of Conservation arrived on the scene to help. They found the penguins huddled together under part of the shop's exterior. Long Lin used some salmon to lure the birds inside, moving them away from the busy public area where they might get hurt.
Return of the Penguins
However, the story wasn't over yet. After being detained and released, these determined penguins made their way back to the sushi shop! They clearly thought they had found the best spot in town and weren't ready to give it up so easily.
A Happy Ending
After their return, authorities took action again. This time, the waddling pair was moved to a special nesting box by the water, set up just for them by the Department of Conservation.
This new home turned out to be a success. The penguins seemed happy with this substitute for the sushi shop. They settled in and continued into nesting season in their much safer location by the water.
These persistent penguins showed that sometimes you need to think outside the box - or inside the sushi shop - when looking for home sweet home.
