Furry Bank Heist: Raccoons Break Into California Bank, Escape Charges
Masked Bandits Break Into California Bank
Two masked bandits broke into a bank in California after hours. But these weren't your typical thieves - they were raccoons! The furry duo has been released and won't face any charges for their failed heist.
The Break-In
Muddy paw prints left at the scene tell the story of their clever entry. The raccoon pair climbed a tree outside the bank and somehow worked their way into the air ducts. Their dramatic entrance included bursting through the ceiling tiles into the bank.
Heist Foiled
Their plans fell apart when a customer using the outdoor ATM spotted movement inside the bank. Upon realizing wild raccoons were inside, the customer called the Peninsula Humane Society to report the would-be criminals.
Animal Rescue Response
This marked the first bank robbery call ever for the Humane Society team. When they arrived, they spent about 10 minutes chasing the partners in crime around the building.
The team was pleased to find that neither raccoon had been injured during their bank break-in attempt. The damage was minimal - just one knocked-over computer and some shuffled papers.
No Charges Filed
Using what might be called the "confused wild animal defense," the raccoons were cleared of all alleged crimes. The Humane Society safely returned them to the outdoors.
As far as anyone knows, they didn't make off with any cash. But if you spot two raccoons in California suddenly living large, you might want to alert authorities.
