Rescued Rooster and Disabled Hen: A Chicken Love Story
A Last-Minute Rescue
Shrimp the rooster was just one day away from being put down when his life took an amazing turn. Now, he's living a real chicken fairy tale at the Herewithus Farm Sanctuary in Pennsylvania.
Finding Love During Recovery
Basil, a hen with one leg, came to the sanctuary during a big chicken rescue operation. She had to have a leg taken off and was kept inside to heal. At the same time, Shrimp was having trouble outside. The other chickens were being mean to him, so the sanctuary staff brought him inside too.
And that's when the magic happened.
Love at First Cluck
From the moment Shrimp saw Basil, he was head over heels. His first meeting with Basil was full of excitement. Soon, he didn't want to leave her side. They formed such a strong bond that now they even go to the vet together so they don't have to be apart.
Chicken Tippy-Tappies
You can tell how much Shrimp loves Basil by watching his "chicken tippy-tappies" - the excited little dance he does when he sees her. It's clear these birds have a special connection.
Getting Better Together
Basil is making good progress in her recovery. She's starting to walk again, which is great news. Through it all, Shrimp has stayed by her side.
A Full Life Together
The happy chicken couple spends their days sharing meals, dancing together, and watching sunsets from their home at the sanctuary. Their sweet story shows that love can bloom in the most unlikely places.
You can follow this chicken romance story on the sanctuary's social media and support their work through their website.
